100 Tonson Gallery is a small but influential art gallery within walking distance of Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit Sukhumvit.
The focus is on contemporary works as part of the gallery’s aim to reach across regional and international boundaries. By showcasing and examining current global art practices, 100 Tonson Gallery has established itself as one of the region’s preeminent spaces not only for the exhibition of works but also contextualisation of the artistic impulse itself.
Indeed, 100 Tonson Gallery was cited in 2007 by London’s Contemporary Art magazine as among the world’s top 50 emerging galleries. The gallery likewise has been a pioneer in various approaches and disciplines including installation art, video installation and conceptual context. Before 100 Tonson Gallery, these fields were underrepresented or non-existent in Bangkok. The gallery has since continued to take a leading role in setting Bangkok’s aesthetic agenda.
100 Tonson Gallery’s architecture and interior spaces are themselves contemporary design masterworks. Set in a leafy downtown neighbourhood, the minimalist structure was conceived by noted French designer Christian Liaigre.
100 Tonson Gallery is in Soi Tonson, about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, or one stop via BTS SkyTrain to Chit Lom Station. Opens every Thursday to Sunday from 11.00 a.m. to 7 p.m.
