Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit Sukhumvit - Family & Business trip hotel - Songkran Festival

Songkran Festival

Songkran Festival, the Thai New Year, occurs every 13 to 16 April.  The celebration’s many traditions include making merit at temples and the symbolic washing away of bad influences with a water blessing.

Despite its gentler origins, Songkran today is known for much more vigorous uses of water. For three days, major streets as well as the smallest sois become site of raucous splashing and spraying. Garden hoses, water guns, buckets, cups – just about anything that will hold water is used to douse other revellers and all who pass by. The right clothes and a waterproof container for valuables are essential.

There are many popular spots for Songkran fun across Bangkok. Closest to Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit Sukhumvit are lower Sukhumvit Road and its surrounding sois, Siam Square and areas around CentralWorld shopping mall. If you take part in the fun, please do so with consideration by using clean water, not using powerful water guns and dressing appropriately.
